Is FUE hair transplant safe?

Yes. At Nuleaf Hair Transplant Centre, Pune, FUE hair transplant is an extremely safe surgery. On top of this we maintain a strict code of conduct in our centre while performing hair transplant surgeries. Sterilization of instruments, operative room cleaning, general cleanliness is check and double checked. So you can be assured that it is completely safe procedure.

Is FUE hair transplant painful?

No. It is wrong concept that hair transplant is very painful. We provide triple anaesthesia technique to the patients where, barely any pain is noticed by the patients. We first chill the skin with Ice/chilling device, which numbs the area. Then we apply vibration device, when further numbs the area. Then we give anaesthesia. Once anaesthesia sets in, there will be absolutely no pain.

What is FUE hair transplant?

FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is method of extraction of the hair follicles from the back & sides of the scalp. This is done by very small 0.70 to 0.90 mm punches which after extraction leave no visible scarring. This is a method (unlike FUT/STRIP method) without stitches and majority of the patients go for FUE. More about FUE in detail

Is FUT hair transplant better or FUE hair transplant better?

Both have their advantages. FUE is very easily acceptable to the patients as there are no stitches involved; patients can cut their hair from the donor area very short (as scars are not visible in FUE). FUT on the other hand is done in our setup only in the patients who are not right candidate for the FUE. Hairs cannot be kept short if you do FUT as the linear scar may become visible to others.  In good hands, there is no difference in results obtained from both of these methods. However, FUE is much more difficult to learn.

What is the cost of hair transplant, especially FUE hair transplant cost in Pune?

Hair transplant cost is measured in terms of grafts, i.e., rupees per graft. This is because higher the number of grafts, higher the work is required, more material is required. In our setup, the cost of the regular FUE hair transplant is INR 35 per graft. (If you are looking for a transplant of 1000 grafts, the cost would be INR 35,000/-). However, if you are looking for specialized FUE hair transplants like the BioFUE, the cost would be INR 40 per graft. If hypothermosal FUE is done, then the cost would be INR 80 per graft.

Can I cut my hair after the hair transplant?

After the hair transplant, hairs will grow naturally. There will be no objection to cutting, dyeing, styling your hair. Even if you cut your hairs, they will grow naturally again. They are your own hairs!

When will I get hair after the hair transplant?

Normal growth pattern is explained with photos here: Growth Stages after Hair Transplant. Planted hairs shed after 15 days to 1 month only to start appearing again at 4 months after the transplant, there after they will grow at roughly 1cm per month. Final stage of the growth is said to be completed at 9 months after the transplant.

What are the consulting charges at Nuleaf hair Transplant centre?

Nothing. We don’t charge for the consultation of the hair transplants. Each consultation will last for 1 and half hour. You will be explained A-Z of the hair transplant world. Along with this, examination of the scalp is done and graft number required is estimated. After examination, the graft requirement and the cost will be explained to you. At Nuleaf Hair Transplant Centre, we also arrange monthly seminars for the patients, where all the queries of the patients are resolved in a group of 10-15. In these seminars, there is every effort made to call the patients who have already done a hair transplant in our setup, so that prospective patients can interact and be absolutely certain of their results.

What are FUE hair transplant’s side effects?

Hair transplantation is a very safe procedure. Most of the side effects are avoided if proper hygiene and sterility of the operating room is maintained. We have the highest standards of operating room. Shock loss is the temporary loss of existing miniaturised hair in the area of plantation. This lasts for about 3 months after the hair transplant. However it is reversible and no treatment is required.

How many sessions I need to do for the covering most of my scalp?

Initial trend in hair transplantation by FUE method was to plant huge number of grafts (up to 5000) in a single day. These sessions were called megasessions and gigasessions. We have discontinued such a practice. Large single day sessions are not only tedious to the patients but also will increase the time of the surgery. Graft survival reduces after 6 hours of ‘out-of-body’ time.  In large sessions it is common to exceed the time of the surgery for up to 12 hours, which may be harmful to the grafts. So a better strategy for optimum graft survival is to do short sessions over a period for 1-4 days. We typically do maximum up to 2000 grafts on single day to reduce the out of body time of the grafts. Remember: whatever internet videos tell you, there is no glory in doing 4000 grafts in a single day and then only 75% of them survive and remaining die. It’s much better to do 2000 grafts on day 1 and 2000 grafts on day 2 for maximum graft survival.  This also reduces surgery time to 6-7 hours per day.

If the area of plantation is large then multiple sites apart from scalp, need to be harvested like beard, chest, abdomen etc. These require different days. For example a case where 5000 grafts are required to cover major portion of the scalp. Scalp will provide 3000 grafts, beard 1000 grafts and chest and abdomen will provide 1000 grafts. In this case following schedule is followed:

Day 1: 2000 Grafts from scalp

Day 2 1000 Grafts from scalp

Day 3: 1000 Grafts from beard

Day 4 1000 Grafts from Chest and Abdomen

Total of 5000 grafts will be obtained with each day 6-7 hrs of surgery. This is very well tolerated by the patient and will give excellent results also.

I have only some hairs lost from the scalp should I do hair transplant?

If you have just begun to lose hair from the top of the scalp, then you can do a smaller session of hair transplant. But before doing the session, remember that hair loss or Androgenetic alopecia is an on-going process. It won’t stop because you have done a hair transplant. You well get very good results from the surgery. However you may need additional sessions in the future for the future hair loss.

Will hair transplant prevent future hair loss?

No. Hair transplant is a permanent method of hair coverage. It has no role in the prevention of hair loss.  Medications, lotions and many other methods do that in very early stages of baldness.

Can I pay the total charges of hair transplants in installations?

We do have an EMI scheme where you can divide your payment over 12 month period. For this you will require a Credit Card and 1% interest per month will be applicable for this.

I have done a hair transplant in the past from other surgeon. I did not get any result. Can I do the hair transplant again with you?

Of course we do corrective hair transplants. Provided that there is no limitation in the donor area, this can be very easily done. However due to the previous scarring of the area, the hair growth percentage may be a little lower than when implanting in a virgin scalp.

I have done hair transplant in the past from a different surgeon, but now I want to cover a different area. Can hair transplant be done again?

Yes. If you have a sufficient donor hair left, we can definitely do another session. We can also take hairs from beard, chest and abdomen if the donor hairs are not sufficient

I have lost hair over the scalp from an accident. Can we plant hairs in the scalp to hide the scar?

Yes. This is that most preferred way of doing a scar repair especially over the cosmetically important areas like the scalp, eyebrows, moustache etc.

I had an injury over face after which scars developed over the moustache and beard area. Can we plant the hairs in these areas in order to hide the scars?

We are routinely doing scalp to moustache transplant for hiding the traumatic scars over these areas. We can cover the scars with hairs very well.

I am a Diabetes patient, can I undergo hair transplantation?

Yes. Provided you blood sugar level is controlled. Apart from this, we also check glycosylated haemoglobin to know your blood sugar control over last 6 months. In patients who have diabetes, we normally do a test session for 100 grafts to check the growth and healing. If these grow very well after 3-4 months, then we plan a bigger session. In patients with diabetes we also plan smaller multiple sessions with a gap of 1 month, every time checking the blood sugar in under control. Typically we plant 500 grafts per months for 5-6 months. This approach prevents development of infection, delayed wound healing and other majority of the problems associated with larger sessions in patients.

I am a hypertension (BP) patient. Can I undergo hair transplantation?

Yes. You hypertension has to well controlled prior to the surgery. We do physician fitness before going for the surgery in such cases. Similar to the diabetes patients, we can plan monthly 500 grafts sessions to cover different areas of the scalp over 5-6 months duration.

I have heart disease. Can I undergo hair transplantation?

We generally avoid all unnecessary surgeries after heart disease. Patients are typically on aspirin and other blood thinners which we make performing hair transplant difficult. We certainly cannot stop these medications for doing hair transplant as it is a non-essential surgery. However, well controlled cases of heart disease can undergo multiple smaller sessions.

Can we harvest the beard hair for hair transplantation?

Yes. Beard is an excellent source of thick and course hair. We can harvest hair from the beard area if the donor area of the scalp is not sufficient enough.

I have contacted few other clinics too. They are offering me great discount. How much discount can you offer?

We don’t inflate the price and then reduce it so as to look like a discount. If we reduce the significant cost, then we simply cannot provide the same quality of the hair transplant. So in order to maintain the highest quality of hair transplant, we don’t believe quoting higher prices than necessary or very low price but with reduced quality. How can I be sure the number of grafts planted over the scalp?

You can count the grafts on your own, after the extraction is over. This is a completely transparent process. If the graft count is lower than what was expected, we inform this to the patients and necessary adjustment in the final price is done. If we extract a few extra grafts, we won’t charge you anything extra for that.

Can you give me guarantee that hair transplant will work and I will get hair 100%?

Giving guarantee of a medical procedure is ethically and morally wrong on part of any hair transplant surgeon. No patient wants a written guarantee of hair transplant from a doctor. When patients come for a consultation, we give the good points and bad points (if any). We will enumerate a few here:

GOOD POINTS [you will get good results if you have these]:

• Thick hairs in the donor area
• Curly hairs in the donor area
• Young patients
• Realistic expectations
• No medical illness
• Sufficient donor density to provide up to 4000 grafts

BAD POINTS [you will get average or below average results if you have these]:

• Thin, silky hair in the donor area
• Low donor density
• Old patients (>70yrs age)
• Patients with hypertension or heart disease (any chronic illness)
• Unrealistic expectations out of hair transplantation.

Can I dye my hair after the hair transplant?

Of course you can dye your hair. It won’t affect their growth or cause hair loss.  You can start colouring or dying your hair after 1 month following the hair transplant.

I have white/grey hair. Can I undergo hair transplant?

We have no issues in performing hair transplant in patients with white hairs. We do advise the patients to put a hair dye 1 day prior to the surgery, for better visualization of the hairs during surgery. White hairs after planting grow normally, just like the black hairs.

I am 20 year old with little hair lost in the front. Can I go for hair transplant?

Of course you can go for a transplant. However, keep in mind that you may require another session in the future as Androgenetic alopecia or baldness is an on-going process.

I stay in Dubai. I want to do hair transplant with you. How many days should I plan the visit?

You need to stay at home for 3 days after the hair transplant. After that you can resume light duty, one which does not have strenuous activity or lot of travelling. After hair transplant scabs would be visible over the scalp for a period of 7-10 days. So other people may notice that you have done some procedure. However, if you can wear a cap for work, this can be hidden very well. If you are coming from abroad, please plan a week’s leave after the hair transplant. We usually don’t allow patient to travel for long distances for 3 days after the surgery.

I am planning for a hair transplant. How many day leave should I take after the procedure?

Minimum of 3 days’ leave is required.  But depending on the sessions planned you may require to take additional 2-3 days leave. The leave is not only to take care of the grafted area, but also to ensure that you take rest during this period so that the healing will occur rapidly.

I smoke and drink. Can I undergo hair transplantation?

Smoking reduces the blood flow to the hair root and reduces oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. This adversely affects the healing time of the grafted area as well as the donor area. We advise people who smoke to hold smoking 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after the hair transplant. However it is not clear whether this helps. It is best if smoking is stopped altogether in view of future hair growth. Alcohol is not allowed with some of the medications during the post-operative phase of 7 to 10 days.

Can I meet past cases of hair transplantation at your centre?

Yes. We arrange the meetings with past patients during their follow up visits. However, we only do this with a proper consent of the patient. After the entire patient has every right to maintain privacy and not tell anyone about his procedure.
