Scalp Micropigmentation is placing ink dots resembling shaved follicles over the scalp. This is done in order to preserve a “shaved head appearance”. However, the use of SMP has diversified since its inception in a variety of hair camouflage procedures.
Do you get new hairs with SMP?
No. With SMP, you get an illusion of having hairs over the scalp. This is also a useful alternative to popular hair fibres. Hair fibres require daily application and they are not sweat-proof. SMP solves these problems because SMP is essentially maintenance free.

Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP is Used for Following
- To get a ‘Shaved Head appearance’ if that is your hairstyle.
- To cover eyebrows where they are lost as a part of the trauma, as an adjunct to a hair transplant.
- Cover FUT or Strip Hair Transplant Scars, if they show up a lot.
- Cover FUE dotted Scars if they show up a lot.
- To get higher density quickly in female pattern alopecia, as medical treatments take a long time to produce cosmetically significant hair growth.
- In Scarring alopecia over the scalp
- Any medical disorder where hair transplant cannot be done.
Before and After Scalp Micropigmetation or SMP
Frequency and Number of Sessions required
Generally, SMP is done once in a week or more frequently depending on the density to be produced. Around 4-5 sessions are required to produced the desired outcome. After the procedures are done, SMP can require touch-up sessions after 2 years or more.
Nuleaf-Follicolor SMP
We use a specialized ink to make the dots much more discrete, rather than blotchy. This allows us to maintain the best cosmetic outcome. SMP Dots are so similar to follicular dots, sometimes even patients can’t distinguish them.
